How to make an apron

Image
Quick and easy one day sewing project + pattern For this project you will need: - pattern - material, preferably cotton - tailor's chalk and tape measure - sewing pins - sewing machine - iron Pattern: All measurements are in centimeters . Parts: 1x lower part of the apron 1x breastplate 2x pocket 2x patch for breastplat  4x patch for pocket 1x waistband (150x4 cm) 2x straps (100x8 cm) Add 1 - 1.5 cm of seam allowance. How to make. You'll need 250 cm/80 cm of cotton ( in my case blue) and one piece of decorative cotton fabric for patches. Sew the tailored patches to the breastplate and pockets (wrong side to the wrong side) and turn to the right side. Iron the rest of their rolled-up seam allowances and sew on the face with a machine. The large patched pockets on the aprons have primarily a practical purpose. The fabric patches are just a decoration. Cut the lower part of the apron with 1 cm allowance for the seam at the waist and 2 cm each on the sides and on the h...

Sudoku Book

Image
Am so happy to announce that I made a sudoku puzzle book. My whole life I've been doing sudoku. All sorts and kinds of sudokus.   As a student, I used sudokus to build a habit. Every day before I go to collage, I'll take a cup of coffee and do one sudoku. It didn't need to be a hard one, just one to start a day. And with that I've solved one whole sudoku book in a year. That book had 260 sudokus and there where all kinds of hard. It started with a 4x4 grid all up to sudokus with letters and a 16x16 grid. Ever since that I've wanted to make a sudoku book. But I wanted to make it as a challenge. A challenge that is going to take a year to get done. With that build a habit of doing one simple task a day.  When I was making this book many questions were asked. One of them was: 'Is this book going to have all kinds of sudokus in it?'. And the answer was no. There are no sudoku books that only have one kind of sudokus in it. This is the first one. In this book y...

How to make a school girl skirt

Image
Pleated tennis skirt or as it is better known, school girl skirt. I tried my best to make one and I can tell you one thing it takes time. Sewing part is fast, but making pleats takes some time.  All in all 2 hours project. Let's dive in. For this project you are going to need:  fabric of your choice measuring tape pen and paper sewing pins tailors cha lk First, we need to take some measurements.  You are going to need waist and hip  measurements. With that you need the  length  of the skirt that you want. My advice is to start with a bit longer skirt. It's always easier to cut off the excess than it is to add more on.  Let's do some math. I promise it's not going to be that hard. 1. Take your waist measurements and divide it by the  number of pleats that you want to have.         In my case I put in 16 pleats.  This is going to give you individual pleat width .  2. Get your material and cut it to the l...

Sewing machine presser foot

Image
Not so long ago I had to change my sewing machine. ( Nothing big happend, just a little bit of maintenance.) At home I own two more machines and one of tham is a small Privileg machine. After a while of use I've noticed that this machine had a different presser foot. This presser foot had a small lever on its back. So I did what every normal person would. I pulled it.  For all of you who didn't know (and I was one of you) this is used to change the bottom part. Yes, it can be changed. And that is not all, it can be changed into a special presser foot. Designed for only one job.  Several months ago my mom got me a set of those presser foot attachments. I had no idea how to use tham, but I had tham.  Today was the day I finally figured it out. And I got to use tham. My mind was blown.  I was helping local seamstress. And one of the things I had to do was roll the hem. And that thing is so long and it takes time.  It was the perfect time to learn something new. In ...

How I made three-piece women's suit

Image
For my graduation I wanted to be a bit different.  First question was should I make a dress or a suit?  I've always seen my self in a dress on this day, but a month before I decided to make a suit. Not any suit. I wanted a three-piece suit. Only place to go next was Pinterest.  This is a link to my Pinterest graduation collection:  https://www.pinterest.com/megymili/graduation/ Now that I have some idea what I wanted next step was to find a pattern.  Pattern for the jacket was not a problem. I knew what I wanted for a while and that was pattern from Burda 3/2011 no.120.  Vest was the hardest thing to find. Not so many magazines that I own have a vest in tham. I found a pattern in Burda 3/97 no.109B. In that same Burda there where pants too no.107A.               Because am using Burda magazine pattern needs to be traced on a tracing paper and than cut out of fabric. There is a lot of pieces. And I cut all of tham out first...

How to use Burda patterns

Image
Burda is my favorite sewing magazine. I get most of my patterns from it.  Let me show you how I get my patterns from Burda.  I will be showing how I got the pattern for my Blue velvet dress.  https://sewingtoperfection.blogspot.com/2022/02/little-blue-velvet-dress.html For this tutorial I will be using this 11/2016 Burda style. 11 is for the month and 2016 is the year in which this came out. Every Burda has two parts. One is magazine, where you can see how the outfit looks on a model. There are also some articles, tips and tricks related to sewing. Second part is patterns and instructions od how to make a garment. You can take this part out and store it, if you don't want to keep the magazine. ( That is awesome idea. Having a lot of magazines is just taking space in storage.) Let us look in that second part. On page number 3 you will find some tips and information about sewing in general. We are looking for page 4. On that page every desing that is in this Burda is repres...

Easter basket

Image
This was a fun little 30 min beginner project. List of things that would be needed:  - Nice fabric. I had some leftover cotton fabrics.  - Interlining. And that is it. 1. Cut interlining in a shape of a circle. I used a plate as a reference, but you can draw it with what you want. We are going to need two circles. 2. Put interlining on your fabric. You are going to need 4 pieces of fabric. If you are making basket in two colors (like I did), interlining goes on one of the pieces from each color. Size of the rectangles doesn't really matter, it is importante that interlining fits on it. Rest of the fabric will be cut of. Important note when working with interlining:   This interlining is the one that needs to be irond on. Be cerful with the way you do that. Always put some other fabric over the interlining when you iron so that it doesn't stick to the iron.  3.  Now we sew.  We need to sew all around interlining.  Don't forget to leave little op...
