Let's make a coat. - Part 1

Idea

Most important thing to know when you start a project is to know what to make. 

I start with the question ''What do I need?'' and go from there. This time it was a coat. Bunch of wool has accumulated in my fabric box and some of it needed to get out of there. 

When you know what you want to make go a bit deeper and ask yourself ''How does it look like?''. I always make a list (in my head, but you can write it down). 

My list would look something like this.

Coat: - 50s inspired

          - Lolita 

          - hood

          - knee long

          - pelerine 

          - buttons all the way up

          - fancy lining

Once you have some sort of an idea of what you want go on Pinterest, Tumblr, Google and just start search for pictures. Try to find the closest model to what your idea is.



These pictures will be used as a reference for pettern. 

After you have a good wision about how it will look like it's time to go on a hunt for a good pattern. I like to start with Amazon and Etsy. But also if you have magazines like Burda is also good. Adventage of magazines is that you don't only get one pettern. 

Try to find closest looking pattern ot what your wision is, but also keep an open mind. 

My advice is not to go and buy the most expensive patterns out there. In the and of the day you will cut tham and make tham fit your body.

How to make a medieval tent?

Not so long ago, I wanted to build a medieval tent. Actually, I needed to build a medieval tent.  The first idea was to buy one. Now that I look beck on it, I should have done that.  But at the time I did not have the money to buy one. Medieval tents cost around 1000€ and that's just for the tent part. Shipping is not included in this price.  Thus my adventure to build one beggins.  Step 1. Know what you want! The tent I wanted is a small medieval tent from the 11th century. This needs 2 poles that will hold it up and 1 pole that will connect those 2 and hold the center up.. I wanted one side to be completely open and to be able to use that side as a parasol. Step 2.   Quick and easy one day sewing project + pattern For this project you will need: - pattern - material, preferably cotton - tailor's chalk and tape measure - sewing pins - sewing machine - iron Pattern: All measurements are in centimeters . Parts: 1x lower part of the apron 1x breastplate 2x pocket 2x patch for breastplat  4x patch for pocket 1x waistband (150x4 cm) 2x straps (100x8 cm) Add 1 - 1.5 cm of seam allowance. How to make. You'll need 250 cm/80 cm of cotton ( in my case blue) and one piece of decorative cotton fabric for patches. Sew the tailored patches to the breastplate and pockets (wrong side to the wrong side) and turn to the right side. Iron the rest of their rolled-up seam allowances and sew on the face with a machine.
